Mail service in the Kimball Ridge Area

Waterloo Postmaster Greg Barnes had been invited but did not attend this meeting. The letter below has been sent to Mr. Barnes regarding mail service in the Kimball Ridge area. The issues are:
a) Reduction in number of drop-off boxes
b) Inadequate capacity in remaining boxes
c) Pickup times too early (to be of any value to businesses, the last pickup time should be no earlier than 5 p.m.)

Greg Barnes, Postmaster
United States Postal Service
300 Sycamore Street
Waterloo, IA 50701-9998

Mr. Barnes,

Our organization represents member businesses located in the Kimball Avenue/Ridgeway Avenue area. On behalf of our membership, we are contacting you to inform you of various concerns that have been expressed regarding the mailbox locations in our area.

Based on calls to your office, our understanding is that some of the mailbox locations in our area are going to be consolidated and pick up times have been changed as well. It seems the main concern surrounds the mailboxes located on the frontage access road between Ridgeway Avenue and Park Lane. Many area business utilize these mail boxes for outgoing mail at the end of each day. Concerns have been expressed regarding the last pick up time and overflow of mail in these mail boxes. Due to the fact that many businesses in the area close at 5:00, it is important to have a 5:00 pick up time at this location. In addition, the volume of mail in these mailboxes at times, makes it impossible for area businesses to fit additional end of day mail into these receptacles.

We would appreciate specific information as to which mailboxes in our area are going to be eliminated and what pick up times have been changed or will be changed in the near future. Furthermore, we would like to know if the capacity at the remaining locations will be expanded to handle a larger volume of mail each day.

We respectfully request that these concerns be evaluated by your office. Our hope is that there are additional pick up times added throughout the day so that the overflow issue is resolved. In addition, and more importantly, we request that the final pick up time each day be extended to at least 5:00 p.m. to better serve the businesses in our area.

I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss these issues further so I can effectively respond to the member businesses in our organization. You can reach me via email at sphvaristy@aol.com or via phone at (319) 233-3571

Sincerely,

Stan Hemesath, President
Kimball Ridge Association
