“March Fourth” for Health
March 4th, 2008
On Tuesday March 4th, 2008 a Health Wellness Fair will be held in the WHS gym. The event is the result of a grant the Foods 2 class received from Iowa Action for Healthy Kids. This will be in conjunction with the height/weight/blood pressure screenings the Health Department does annually. 45 local agencies representing health, safety, nutrition and fitness will be at the fair. Watch for the list of exhibitors in a future newsletter.
The Family and Consumer Science department is coordinating the event with key roles played by Success Street; the School Nurse; Leadership 2 class; the PE dept; and the 5210 Cedar Valley’s Healthy Children Task Team. Foods 3 students will prepare and serve food for the exhibitors as well as host the event.
Approximately 1000 WHS students will attend the health screenings. Students attending the event will be from the following areas: PE, FCS, Drivers Ed, COOP, Teens in Transition, Learning Lab, Leadership, and Anatomy. Teachers will accompany their classes to the gym during class time. Students with late arrival or early release may attend before or after they are done at WHS. The event will be open until 3 pm so students not attending during school hours may do so after school. All staff is encouraged to attend the event. Donations of door prizes would also be appreciated.
We are always appreciative of any donations for door prizes. To give a donation please contact Arlene Prather-Okane (apratherokane@co.black-hawk.ia.us)
Thank you for your willingness to make the day a success. Barbara Henning
