Critchett's Lowrey Organ Center: Critchett's is a third family generation business, since 1922; specializing in Lowrey Organs, Allen Classical Organs, acoustic and digital pianos. They have locations throughout Iowa and Nebraska.

Their Waterloo location is at 44 Brookeridge Drive, off Kimball and San Marnan Avenues, just North of Fareway and behind McDonalds. The store manager there is Pam Ayres. Pam began her musical career in 1975 and became Manager of Critchett's flagship store in Des Moines. She has taught adult organ and keyboard lessons since the late 70's.

In 1999, she opened Critchett's Lowrey Organ Center in Cedar Falls, and then brought the business to it's brand new location in Waterloo. Pam currently has 93 adult students, ranging from 47 yrs. to 96 yrs. in age; most being in their 70's to 80's. Classes meet for one hour each week in small groups. In addition, they have monthly concerts with professional artists, picnics, potlucks, recitals, a weekly Lowrey Organ Club and an All Organ Orchestra.

No previous musical experience is required and students are actually learning their first song the very first week. It's a great atmosphere and a great place for Senior students to learn to play as well as build friendships. You'll even meet the store mascot, Murphy. He's a 6 yr. old Shitzu-Yorki mix that watches over Pam and all her students.

How many things is one person entitled to do well? Ruth Beck can claim more than her share. Kimball Ridge Board of Directors know of Ruth and Don's contributions to the Kimball Ridge market and other area markets over the past two decades. They've earned a reputation for quality product and baked goods. Their custom baking, catering and cookie dough businesses have earned for her coveted invitations to judge Iowa State Fair food events.

Other Cedar Valley circles know Ruth as a musician. As an accomplished pianist, she plays for events on many weekends and serves as church organist.

Ruth is a master Farm Homemaker and adored grandmother of 19. She and her husband, Don, farm in southern Black Hawk County where they raised their seven children.

Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in Waterloo in 1897. Since that time it has been actively engaged mission and ministry in the Cedar Valley. Central was located at 4th Street and Locust until 1963. In 1963 it moved to the outskirts of Waterloo on an 8 acre plot. It has been at that location at 3475 Kimball Avenue since moving to that location in 1963. Central is engaged in ministry through many outreach and mission partnerships, including the Small World Preschool, located in the Education Wing of the church facilities, a vibrant Parish Nurse Ministry, Music Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, House of Hope, Love Cedar Valley, Partner in Education (Lou Henry Elementary School). Recent undertakings included a mission trip to help with reconstruction of Greensburg, KS – a community completely destroyed by a F5 tornado. Worship, Bible Study, Fellowship and Prayer are all integral to this vibrant community of faith.

Dr. L. Brent Cantrell is the Senior Pastor, beginning in 2006. His previous pastorates were in Oklahoma, Kentucky and Texas. He is the father of two children: Madison and Noah. He holds degrees from Drury University in Springfield, MO (Bachelor of Music Education), Texas Christian University’s Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas (Master of Divinity) and the Doctor of Ministry from Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO (D.Min. dissertation was in regard to Leadership and Leadership Development). Dr. Cantrell has been in parish ministry for nearly twenty years. Before entering the ministry he was a Band Director.

Brad is a Real Estate Loan Officer with BankIowa at 3222 Kimball Ave. He joined the Bank in 2002 after previously owning a mortgage brokerage company for 3 years, abc Mortgage Corp. Brad has been in banking since 1978 and relocated to the Waterloo area in 1985 from Cedar Rapids to become the head of residential lending for MidAmercia Savings Bank.

Brad was just married in August of 2004 to Ann and they reside on W9th St. Waterloo. He has two grown children, Christina (Chicago) and Brian (St. Louis).

Bob Delveau is an ISU graduate and has been a Realtor for over 4 years. He currently works at Oakridge Realtors. Bob is also a board member with the Waterloo Cemetery on Kimball Avenue.

Bob is originally from Muscatine, Iowa but is very proud to be a part of the Cedar Valley. Bob is married to Kelly and has two sons, Tucker and Cooper and reside on Edgemont Avenue in the Kimball/Ridge area.

In addition to the enjoyment of selling real estate, Bob finds time for some fishing, hunting and spending time with the family on his free time. Bob also enjoys flying using his private pilots license to do some traveling.

Dianne is originally from Minnesota, lived in Hartford, Connecticut for six years, then moved to Waterloo in 1974. She has been employed part time at Dutton, Braun, Staack & Hellman Law Firm located at 3151 Brockway Road for sixteen years as a tax preparer. Recently she took on more responsibility at the firm in records management.

Through the years, she has been an active volunteer in several organizations some of which include The Junior League of Waterloo-Cedar Falls, Grout Museum, YWCA and served as president of The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Guild. She along with a representative from Sartori Hospital started The Festival of Trees in 1989 which continues to be a profitable fundraiser. She recently completed a six-year term as a commissioner for The Black Hawk County Civil Service Commission and looks forward to her involvement with the Kimball Ridge Association

Laura Hand came to the Cedar Valley from Clermont, located in the northeast corner of Iowa. She graduated from UNI with a degree in Graphic Communications. She is now the Senior web designer for VGM Forbin, VGM's technology and Web services consulting group. Laura has been a designer with VGM Forbin for over 4 years.

Laura has worked with clients in many industries to improve or create an on-line presence. Laura's goal is to bring her clients innovative, yet cost-effective solutions to their technology challenges.

Laura is also an adjunct Professor at UNI. She teaches Introduction to Web Design. In her spare time, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband, working on their first home, traveling and making homemade books & invitations.

Jay Hansen was born and raised in Hudson. He and Jeanne, his wife of 36 years, and their four sons, Brent, Brad, Blair and Blake, operate the dairy farm that has been in his family since 1861. Jay and Jeanne also have a daughter, Lynn, who resides in Omaha. His seven grandchildren are the seventh generation to grow up on the farm.

In 2004, the first gallon of milk was produced under the Hansen’s Farm Fresh Dairy label. The family opened the Moo Roo dairy store at Kimball and Ridgeway in June 2006. The name reflects the cows and the wallabies (miniature kangaroos) that live on the farm.

Jay is a graduate of Iowa State University and taught vocational agriculture in Charles City Schools. He was a 4-H leader, organized the Iowa Racquetball Association and is past president of the Iowa Holstein Association. In his free time he enjoys playing racquetball and playing with his grand kids.

Joan Harringa was born and raised in Waterloo. She is married to Tim and they have 2 sons, Justin of Ankeny, IA, and Andy of Iowa City, IA.

Joan has been in banking for 29 years. She is the Branch Manager, Vice President at Regions Bank Ridgeway office where she also holds her life insurance license.

She has been a member of the Presidents club at the bank and most recently nominated for UP best at Union Planters Bank.

Originally from Monona Iowa, Stan moved to Waterloo after serving four years in the Navy to attend the University Of Northern Iowa. Upon completion of earning his Bachelors degree in Business Management - Finance from UNI, Stan took the Office Manager position at Varsity Cleaners and is currently the Business Manager for Varsity Cleaners and Milroy's Tuxedos. Stan has three children, Holli, Stuart and Drew, and has recently married his wife Angie. Hobbies include golf, vegetable gardening, and attending sons' school events.

Merriam is the Health Promotion Facilitator for Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Wellness Services and has been involved in fitness instruction and personal training education for several years. Her duties with Wellness Services include corporate wellness, instructing CPR in the community, and managing the personal trainers and fitness instructors. She also has a background in Respiratory Therapy and was employed in this capacity at Covenant Medical Center for 19 years and still fills in there as needed.

Originally from Algona, IA, Merriam has lived in the Cedar Valley for the past 20 years. She is married to Scott and has a 17 year-old daughter, Jordin, who is very active at West High in athletics, drama, and student senate. She is also a team captain for the American Heart Association Cedar Valley Heartwalk and committee member with the West High Athletic Foundation Fundraiser.

In her spare time Merriam enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and staying active.

Velda Phillips is Administrator of Friendship Village, located at 600 Park Lane, Waterloo, IA. Velda has been employed by the Village since graduating from UNI in 1971 and has served in various administrative positions. Friendship Village is home to approximately 450 retired persons, and is served by 185 wonderful employees. On the campus near Covenant hospital, there are 270 independent living units of varying sizes, 49 assisted living (known as Lakeview Lodge), and a 67-bed Medicare certified nursing facility. In addition, the Village has management responsibility for Rosewood Estate located on Hammond Ave. New projects in the works include: building a new nursing facility with 33 private rooms adjacent to Lakeview Lodge, remodeling the current Health Center, and building a new 3-story pre-to early retirement center at Guernsey Park.

Besides, keeping busy at Friendship Village and its related projects, Velda lives on an acreage with her husband, Ron, two horses, a dog and three cats. Ron and Velda enjoy spending time with their three children and four grandsons. When there quiet time, Velda likes to read, work in her flower gardens, and spend time with friends.

Velda has been active in several community organizations during the last several years, including the Waterloo Kiwanis Club, Kimball Ridge Assocation, YWCA, and Metro Community Concert Association, to name a few. She is also active in the Iowa Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

As administrator of Friendship Village, I feel strongly that community volunteerism is very important. I have enjoyed being a part of the Kimball Ridge Association since its early formative meetings and appreciate the value that the Association has brought to the neighboring businesses and professionals. The networking experience is valuable but also the advocacy in promoting the development of this busy and important part of our City. We have had considerable support from the City of Waterloo over the years as well.

Aram is a third generation jeweler at Facets by Susong, located onE. Tower Park Drive.Facets by Susong is a family run business that specializes in manufacturing fine gold jewelry products for the Cedar Valley and other retailers jewelers throughout the United States.

Aram has spent a majority of his life living, working and raising a family in the Kimball Ridge Area. He is married to Katy and they have two young children, Samuel and Molly.

In addition to serving on the Kimball Ridge board, Aram is a member of Kiwanis, and the Elks club. On his spare time Aram enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his children.

Pam is a Vice President/Branch Manager with US Bank at the Kimball Ave branch. She has been with US Bank since 1991 with various lending / management positions and is a graduate of Upper Iowa University with a degree in business management. Her family consists of husband Kenny who is a John Deere retiree, two grown children, Nicole (a registered nurse) and Corey (a school teacher).

Dan Tovar is director of customer relations for Flowerama of America Inc. Dan has 15 years of professional experience. He founded, owned and operated his own business for several years and was a senior manager with VGM & Associates prior to joining Flowerama of America Inc.

Dan has also been involved in the business to business solutions industry for over 10 years. Dan has worked with many clients in many industries to improve their customer service and sales effectiveness. He is known for bringing clients innovative, yet cost-effective solutions to their business customer service and sales challenges. Dan is an active member of the Kimball Ridge Association board of directors and is heavily involved in other school and community projects.

Lisa Wall is Director of Human Resources and Employee Benefits and also serves on the board of directors for Hogan - Hansen, P.C. Lisa has been with the company since 2002 and has been in the retirement plan business since 1992. Hogan - Hansen, P.C. is a full service certified public accounting and consulting firm founded in northeast Iowa in 1924. Since that date, the firm has grown from a small staff to the multi-office organization of highly trained professionals who serve you today with a wide array of client services in all areas of business and personal financial affairs. Hogan - Hansen, P.C. currently has offices in Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, and Mason City.

Lisa is originally from Osage, IA and attended UNI where she graduated with a degree in Finance. She currently lives in Waterloo with her husband, Mark, and children, Mitchell, Emma, and Thomas. In her spare time, Lisa volunteers for various programs at St Edward's Catholic Church and St. Edward's School. Lisa enjoys running, golfing and spending time with her family.

Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel has been in business since 1924, originally located in the downtown area and now at 3146 Kimball Avenue and also Garden View Chapel at 3655 Logan Avenue adjacent to the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The funeral home is a spacious facility and includes a community room for post funeral gatherings and luncheons.

William Winder - Bill is the assistant manager of the funeral home having been associated with it since 1953. He is a member of the Waterloo Elks Lodge and past president of Waterloo Noon Lions Club. Bill also volunteers at the Salvation Army. His wife, Ardella, is retired after 40 years as an R.N. and spends time volunteering at the First United Methodist Church and the Waterloo Public Library.

Daryl R. Schumacher - Daryl is president of Kearns Funeral Service and owner of the funeral homes. He is licensed funeral director serving the Cedar Valley community since 1973. He is also a member of the Waterloo Kiwanis Club, Waterloo Elks Lodge, Waterloo Lodge #105 A.F. & A.M., and the El Mecca Shrine.
